SUNNYVALE (KRON) — A police chase that started in San Francisco ended in a deadly crash on El Camino Real in Sunnyvale Tuesday morning, according to police.

San Francisco police began pursuing two alleged armed robbery suspects at around 12:45 a.m. on southbound Highway 101, police said.

Once the case reached Ralston Avenue in Belmont, California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit.

The suspect vehicle was allegedly speeding more than 100 mph, police said. It then traveled over to SR 237 before exiting at Grant Road onto El Camino Real.

The car began to veer out of control on El Camino Real, smashing into at least four parked cars then rolling over.

The 19-year-old passenger was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Zain Dadabhai of San Francisco, was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Eastbound El Camino Real in Sunnyvale was closed due to the police investigation between South Wolfe Road and Poplar Avenue. The street was reopened by 7:30 a.m.

The department released the alert at 2:25 a.m. and added that westbound traffic may also be blocked intermittently.
