SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Yet another San Francisco police officer was arrested on Monday and has been charged with five felonies for overtime fraud, according to San Francisco police.
Police said 41-year-old Ofc. Dean Lee, of Daly City, turned himself in and was booked into jail for grand theft, along with four counts of defrauding a government agency, according to police. He remains in jail on $50,000 bail, jail records said.
Lee, a 15-year veteran of the department, came to the attention of the internal affairs division after a tip from a department source, police said.
After an investigation into the allegations, the findings were forwarded to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. District Attorney’s spokesman Alex Bastian confirmed he was charged with the five
felonies.
Lee has been placed on unpaid leave, according to police.
“The public’s trust is of the utmost importance to the members of the SFPD and the Department will continue to work hard to build and maintain this trust,” police officials said in a statement.
“As San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and Chief (Greg) Suhr have emphasized, Department members will continue to hold each other accountable and will act swiftly to report any behavior that might bring dishonor to the Police Department and the City of San Francisco,” police said.
Lee’s arrest is the latest in a string of misconduct scandals by San Francisco police, including several officers convicted of stealing from suspects during raids and a lieutenant charged with interfering with a sexual assault investigation involving another officer.
Both of those investigations turned up numerous racist and antigay text messages exchanged among San Francisco officers.Bay City News contributed to this report.
