San Francisco police arrest 3 in various sex crimes on children

San Francisco police have arrested three people in various sex crimes on children, officers said on Friday.

The first investigation began in early August. Police say a man, later identified as 54-year-old Cristobal Avendano, was trying to meet and have sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl he met online.

Detectives say Avendano tried to send graphic sex images to the girl.

Police arrested Avendano on Aug. 20 when he attempted to meet and have sexual contact with the girl in San Francisco, police said. He is charged with meeting a minor for sexual contact, communicating with a minor to have sexual contact, and going to an arranged meeting with a minor for sexual contact.

The next investigation happened when someone started uploading child porn on a peer-to-peer file-sharing network. Police identified 50-year-old Maurice Alvarez, of San Francisco, as a resident, officers said.

Alvarez works as an electrician. He was arrested at his home on the 2700 block of Bush Street.

At his home, police found child porn on a media device, according to officers. He was booked into the San Francisco County Jail for having over 600 files of child porn.

In the third case, police say they investigated someone getting child porn from an encrypted file sharing network. Police arrested 73-year-old Stanley Barbarich, of Sausalito, at his houseboat on Liberty Dock.

On Aug. 23, police found dozens of media devices with thousands of child porn images at Barbarich’s houseboat, police said.

He was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for having over 600 files of child porn.
