A San Francisco man who wants to help the homeless community is taking his passion for pizza to the streets.
When Mark Schechter,30, isn’t at the office, he’s baking and serving fresh slices of pizza for the hungry.
“I want them to experience a hot, fresh meal, with a lot of care given to the ingredients and the food,” he said.
Schechter works in the tech industry, but his passion for pizza runs deep.
He got his foot in the door at Pizza Hacker in the Mission and Pizzeria Delfina.
He also runs his own pop-up pizza shop on the side and wants to use those skills to help the less fortunate.
“Seeing all the tents people camped out under the bridges and the tents it pains my heart,” Schechter said.
He’s fundraising for the Homeless Action Center and Spirit of Oakland.
So far, he’s raised over $4,000 in Facebook and private donations.
His commitment to helping others doesn’t stop there. He taking his Roccbox oven skills and organic ingredients to an East Bay homeless encampment Labor Day weekend where he hopes to feed 100 people.
