SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco police have arrested a 31-year-old man accused of beating another man in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood, causing the victim to die from his injuries weeks later at a hospital, police said on Monday.
Police arrested Anthony Jones at around 4 p.m. on Thursday, more than a month after the incident, police said. He was arrested near Market and Jones streets, just a block from where the initial incident occurred.
Jones was arrested on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and a probation violation, according to police.
Jones is accused of beating 52-year-old San Francisco resident Evaristo Rocha-Rodriguez on Aug. 23. Around 1 a.m., the two had gotten into a confrontation near Market and Seventh streets, police said.
Jones allegedly punched Rocha-Rodriguez, causing him to fall and hit his head. Rocha-Rodriguez was taken to a hospital with head injuries, where he remained, until he died from his injuries on Sept. 13, according to police.Responding officers were unable to apprehend Jones at the time.
