San Francisco high school student is youngest victim of Oakland warehouse fire

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Draven McGill was only 17 years old when he was killed in the massive Oakland “Ghost Ship” warehouse fire.

The teen was an 11th grader at the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts.

McGill is the youngest of those who perished in the horrific warehouse party fire.

He was a member of the school’s vocal department and the Pacific Boychoir Academy.

“This is an incredibly unsettling and sad event — not only for the Asawa SOTA community, but especially for Draven’s family. I am in contact with them, and will keep you informed of how we can provide support to them,” school Principal Barnaby Payne said in a letter to parents.

“As sad as we are today, I know that how we react in challenging times is what defines us as a community. As parents, teachers, children, students, brothers, sisters, and friends, we share in the heartbreak of his family and will embrace them and each other as Asawa SOTA family. We must rise to this occasion and rally around each other with love, compassion and support.”
