San Francisco city leaders hold meeting to reassure residents

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Community leaders and law enforcement met with worried residents in San Francisco’s Presidio Height’s neighborhood on Tuesday.

After hearing about recent attacks in the neighborhood, some residents are worried about increased crime in the area.

Rumors began circulating on the popular website Nextdoor.com that there have been 15 alleged assaults or attempted assaults, but officers with the San Francisco Police Department say that doesn’t appear to be true.

Police spokesperson Carlos Manfredi says that the department has only been notified of two recent attacks.

The first happened on May 21 around 10:30 p.m. In that attack, a woman told police that she had been raped in the area of Clay and Scott streets, near Alta Plaza. Police have not made an arrest in that attack.

The second happened on June 1, in the 1900 block of Green Street. A woman said that she was attacked by a man around midnight, but she was able to fight him off. Nobody has been arrested in that attack either.

Police said that there is nothing to indicate that those two incidents are related.

According to Manfredi, a booking photo was released on Nextdoor.com of a man not related to either of those incidents.

That man was arrested on April 7 in the 3500 block of Pacific Street on charges related to vehicle vandalism. Police have said that man is not a sexual predator.
