SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Seven people are without a home and five firefighters are injured after a four-alarm fire burned three buildings in San Francisco’s Castro District early Thursday morning.
The fire was reported at 27 Hattie Street at 12:17 a.m. and was upgraded to a four-alarm fire by 1 a.m. Firefighters gained control of the fire shortly after 2 a.m.
Five firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries while battling the fire. One of the injured firefighters was taken to a hospital with a broken wrist.
No other injuries were reported.
Three building were burned in the fire displacing all seven residents, five adults and two children. The Red Cross is at the scene providing services to the displaced parties, and will help to coordinate emergency housing for them, firefighters said.
A female tabby cat is missing from one of the affected buildings, firefighters said. She was last seen running out the door by someone in the neighborhood.
Hattie Street will remain closed throughout the morning, firefighters said. Market Street reopened at about 3:50 a.m. after being closed in both directions for several hours.
