SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will start in the game on Sunday, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

The team will be playing against the Buffalo Bills at the Ralph Wilson Stadium in New York.

Previous starter Blaine Gabbert has been struggling since the beginning of the season.

Some suspected No.3 QB Christian Ponder might be in the running before Kelly’s announcement Tuesday morning.

Kaepernick has not started recently because of three off-season surgeries and Kelly has hinted he may not be fully healthy to do so.

The quarterback has made headlines for refusing to stand during the national anthem before 49ers games.

Kaepernick’s protest has spread nationwide even at high school football games.

This announcement comes after Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsberg called Kaepernick’s protest “dumb and disrespectful.”Stay with KRON4 News for updates on this developing story.
