MONTEREY CO. (KRON) — On Tuesday, a Salinas man pled no contest to several felony and misdemeanor charges from an incident that occurred in March of 2015, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s office.
Horacio Venegas, 46, is being charged with felony domestic violence, felony dissuading a witness and misdemeanor assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, prosecutors said.
Venegas struck a victim in the face, causing a large black eye that swelled shut, according to prosecutors.
While out on bail, Venegas violated the protective order and went to the victim’s house, asking if she would change her plea about the incident.
In a separate incident, Venegas had strangled the victim in the parking garage of her home.
Venegas is scheduled to be sentenced on August 9 by Monterey County Superior Court Judge, Larry E. Hayes. Venegas will receive eight years in a state prison, according to prosecutors.
