SALINAS (KRON/BCN) — A 29-year-old man has been arrested on charges he kidnapped a woman and demanded she drive him from his home in Monterey County to the Bay Area, investigators said Wednesday.

Monterey County sheriff’s officials say on Tuesday Steven Acosta threw a rock through the front window of a woman’s vehicle, demanding she give him a ride.

At one point, the victim was able to call a friend from the bathroom of the Jack in the Box on South Main Street in Salinas, deputies said.

When deputies arrived at the restaurant, Acosta ran off and forced his way into a home on Chestnut Street, according to investigators. He was later found hiding in a closet inside the home and taken into custody, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators say Acosta had a warrant out for his arrest for violating his probation and wanted a ride from the woman so he could “hide out.”

Deputies also say Acosta was in possession of methamphetamine pipes at the time of his arrest.

The victim was treated for minor injuries from cuts she suffered during the incident, according to investigators.
