SALINAS (KRON/BCN) — A 40-year-old man was allegedly found with more than 600 rounds of ammunition in Salinas on Tuesday afternoon, police said Wednesday.
An officer received a tip that Ramon Berlanga was constructing AR-15 rifles and modifying them to function at full capacity, police said.
The officer wrote a search warrant that was served with help from other officers in the 1700 block of First Avenue around 3 p.m. Tuesday, when they detained Berlanga and his parents, according to police.
The officers found an AR-15 rifle, more than 600 rounds of .223-caliber ammunition and various kinds of gunpowder, police said.
Berlanga was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and other alleged crimes, according to police.
Officers are looking at the rifle to find out of it was fully automatic and may file more charges against Berlanga, police said.
