SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Sacramento authorities are trying to determine whether a dog found dead in a burned pile of garbage was abused or killed.
Metropolitan Fire District Capt. Michelle Eidam says it’s not clear whether the animal was alive at the time it was burned. Firefighters made the discovery Saturday in the backyard of a home while responding to plumes of smoke.
Eidam tells the Sacramento Bee an autopsy should help investigators determine whether the dog was alive. She said if the investigation determines the dog was abused, the responsible party could face criminal charges.
