SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A Superior Court judge approved Monday for the Golden State Warriors to move forward with building a new stadium in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood.
The judge ruled the city’s environmental review and approval process helped make way for the team’s new playing grounds.
Mayor Ed Lee released a statement praising the Superior Court’s decision.
“Today’s Superior Court decision today is an important milestone in the process of bringing the Golden State Warriors back to San Francisco and to building a state-of-the-art entertainment venue the entire San Francisco Bay Area can be proud of,” Lee said.
The mayor also said the decision helps support the hard work of the Planning Department, the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, the City Attorney’s Office, the University of California San Francisco and the community over the last two years.
The order was in favor of the Warriors and the San Francisco Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure.
Opponents of the project have filed multiple lawsuits to stop it from happening.
The order is still being analyzed despite the favorable ruling.
