ROHNERT PARK (KRON/BCN) — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is investigating a 14-year-old high school girl’s report that a man tried to lure her into his car during a school lunch break last week, according to police officials Thursday.

The girl said a man pulled up next to her in a green, older model two-door sedan as she walked on East Cotati Avenue near the Wolf Den Plaza shopping center in Rohnert Park around 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Part of the car’s rear window was covered with black plastic, according to the girl. The student said the man offered her a ride and repeatedly told her to get in his car, but she kept walking until she joined a group of people in a parking lot, public safety officials said.

The suspect then drove east on East Cotati Avenue toward Petaluma Hill Road, the girl said.

She said she did not call police during the incident because her cellphone battery was dead, but she later told her parents and school staff, public safety officials said. The department was notified of the incident on Wednesday.

The girl described the suspect as a heavy set white man in his 30s or 40s with short brown hair and dark colored eyes.

The department is asking the public to help identify the suspect.
