SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — From elite athletes to new runners, more than 10,000 running enthusiasts of all skill levels will participate Sunday morning in the Third Annual Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon San Francisco.

The scenic 13.1-mile course highlights San Francisco’s most famous sites, taking participants along the Great Highway with sprawling ocean views, through the Presidio, across the Golden Gate Bridge and along Crissy Field with skyline views before ending in the heart of the city, on the steps of City Hall.

A bucket list race for runners from all over the world, this course allows runners the rare opportunity to run across closed lanes of the landmark Golden Gate Bridge. This half marathon provides fitness and fun as the course is lined with high-energy entertainment and thousands of spectators culminating with a huge Finish Line Festival.GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE LANE CLOSURES

The Golden Gate Bridge will close four lanes to accommodate runners participating in the race. Traffic will be restricted to two lanes southbound and one lane northbound between 6:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY (SFMTA)

Areas along the race route will be marked as “No Parking – Tow Away Zones.” The public is asked to adhere to the dates and times posted; all zones will be enforced. Click here for a list of no-park zones. Click here to download a course map. 

Most road closures and detours will be in effect between the hours of 6:00 am and 12:45 PM. At 6:00 am, Police and event personnel may implement a soft closure along the entire race course. At most points along the course, pedestrians and bicyclists may cross the course during safe gaps in runners. Please follow the discretion of a traffic controller if present. The race begins at 7 a.m. and streets will reopen on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course support materials have been removed. Streets along the earlier miles of the route will open earlier than roads along the end of the route.
