BURLINGAME (KRON) — A 25-year-old man with ties to a San Francisco street gang was arrested Monday for suspicion of snatching a chain from an elderly man in November, but not before he tried to flee police by jumping out of an apartment window, Burlingame police said.

Officers with the Burlingame Police Department, San Mateo County Gang Intelligence Unit and the San Francisco Police Department’s gang task force, tracked down Patrick Rushing at an apartment in the 1400 block of Bellevue Avenue, Burlingame police said.

When they tried to contact Rushing inside the apartment, he attempted to flee through a side window. Authorities had already set up a perimeter around the apartment and were able to apprehend him, according to police.

Authorities had been looking for Rushing in connection with a Nov. 7 robbery, in which he allegedly followed a 75-year-old man from a convenience store to the man’s home on Lorton Avenue, Burlingame police spokesman Lt. Jay Kiely said. The elderly man was shoved to the ground and his chain was yanked off his neck before the suspect fled the scene.

Rushing also had a warrant for his arrest for a burglary in San Francisco, according to Kiely.

Authorities say Rushing may have ties to a San Francisco gang.

“He’s a dangerous guy and we’re glad we could bring the case to a safe conclusion,” Kiely said.

Rushing was arrested on suspicion of robbery and burglary and has been booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
