SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On Tuesday’s edition of Rob Black’s Winners and Losers, our financial expert and KRON 4’s Mark Danon talk about Apple and its big new product event set for tomorrow.

For some, the usually hyped event isn’t garnering as much excitement as in the past. Black says he used to look forward to Apple’s annual product event with its big announcements, but a lot of that excitement has worn off.

Black does detail what Apple customers can expect Wednesday: From the company’s rumored new iPhone design to an updated Siri. He also discusses new features of Apple TV, which is expected to triple its current prices.

Plus Black and Danon discuss whether Apple may see a bump in its stock, which has traditionally been the case following these events.

Also, what would a federal government shut down mean for Wall Street? As Congress battles over a budget and another shutdown deadline looms, Black discusses the stock market’s reaction. He says a threat of a government shutdown may signal a good time to buy.

Black and Danon also talk about Verizon’s plans to begin 5G (fifth generation) network field tests. 5G would offer download speeds about 50 times faster than what’s currently available to consumers. Black says faster download speeds will be essential as streaming television is expected to take over in the next couple of years.

Our financial expert also takes a viewer’s question about ETFs, or exchange-traded funds. Black gives a big thumbs up for ETFs, which like mutual funds allow investors to easily build a portfolio with a variety of holdings. Another big upside is that they cost less than mutual funds. But Black does offer a warning and word of advice on what types of stocks to invest in.
