SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The area around a landmark destination in San Francisco is seeing an uptick in violent crimes.

The most recent was a Friday night shooting just blocks from Fisherman’s Wharf.

The victim survived but the shooter is still on the loose.

“If there is a crime that happens around here, people are going to stop coming over here and that’s definitely going to affect every business in Fisherman’s Wharf,” said Mehmet Baran, manager at Alioto’s Restaurant.

The establishment is just feet away from where a homeless man was stabbed to death in broad daylight on March 20. Baran says crime is getting worse and worse and the city needs to do more about problem.

“I think that the city needs to have some measurements as far as the homelessness goes they need to take care of that,” Baran said. “They need to take care of the crime all together.”

Some other area businesses say so far, the violent crimes haven’t been affecting their bottom line.

Tony Aflatooni a supervisor at the International Spy Shop says concerned visitors should think about equipping themselves.

“We carry stun guns, we actually have a stun gun in the back of our little area in case we need to we kinda just discharge it, get it going back off,” said Aflatooni.

Meanwhile, San Francisco Police say they’re making the area more safe by putting more boots on the ground.

The increase in presence would be a nice welcome for several shops and restaurants.

“We don’t see a need to be concerned again these are all isolated incidents and we expect everybody to go on business as normal,” said Officer Adam Lobsinger.
