RICHMOND (KRON) — Several Richmond police officers are being investigated by their department for alleged sexual relations with an underage girl who is also connected to a similar investigation within the Oakland Police Department.
The Richmond Police Department started an investigation last week after several officers came forward claiming to having connections with the “young lady at the center of the Oakland police investigation,” Capt. Bisa French said.
The case comes after three Oakland police officers were put on leave and two other officers resigned after they were accused of having sexual relations with a police dispatcher’s underage daughter.
French did not say how many Richmond police officers are being investigated or if they are suspended.
KRON4’s Haaziq Madyun was the first Bay Area reporter to break the story.
The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office did place one of its deputies on administrative leave on Monday as part of the same case.
The Oakland Police Department began investigating the sexual misconduct allegations after Officer Brendan O’Brien committed suicide last September.
It is not clear at this time when more details about the internal investigation within the Richmond Police Department can be released, French said.
“We hope to learn some more sometime this week,” she said.
