Richmond police are offering up rewards in the search for suspects in two of the city’s 8 murders this year.

The department says it will give $10,000 to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest of the people responsible for the death of both Joseph Alexander and Mark Henderson.

The community and these families are hurting over the loss of both Alexander and Henderson, and hope someone comes forward with information.

“We never would’ve thought it would be our son, but at the end of the day, it can happen to anybody. Anybody,” said Decenthia Henderson.

In April, Henderson’s son Mark was shot and killed near Crescent Park in Richmond.

“People’s kids, people’s parents, everybody’s hurting, the community is hurting,” said Henderson.

Nine days later, 21-year-old Joseph Alexander was murdered in the Stop and Shop on Carlson Boulevard — Richmond’s eighth homicide in less than 8 months.

“We just want justice. He didn’t deserve this. He was a great person. Loved by many. Lots of family. We just want justice, bottom line,” said Joseph Alexander, his father.

On Tuesday, Richmond police said they are now giving away a $10,000 reward to anyone with information leading to an arrest in Henderson or Alexander’s cases, hoping someone will come forward.

“It gives me a little bit of sense that maybe there’s gonna be something that can really happen,” said Henderson.

police say Henderson’s death came less than three days after a fatal shooting that ended a four and a half month period without homicides in the city — the longest since Richmond began keeping records in the early 1970s.

“Why did they take Marky away from us? Do you know how much that hurt as a mother?”

“We don’t know any details of what happened, we really don’t care. We just want justice.”

The reward will go to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in these cases.
