RICHMOND (KRON) — A police officer in Richmond is recovering after he was injured by a department police dog Tuesday morning, according to police.
The police officer shot the department police dog when the dog attacked and bit him this morning, a police sergeant said. The dog lived, but was wounded and is being treated at a veterinary hospital.
The incident occurred in the Richmond Police Department parking lot located at 1701 Regatta Blvd around 7 a.m., according to police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov
The officer was transported to the hospital for treatment, though the extent of his injuries are unclear.
Abetkov said an internal investigation is underway.
