A restaurant employee taking out the trash was shot during a robbery attempt in San Francisco early Friday morning.

Officers responded to a shooting at 2:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of Lombard Street, according to police.

Police found the 31-year-old victim suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene.

Officers rendered aid and summoned an ambulance.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect approached the victim while he was taking out the trash.

The suspect demanded money and shot the victim, police said.

The suspect tried to run away but officers were able to detain him several minutes later on the 2000 block of Greenwich Street.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, has not yet been identified by police.
