Residents worry bad publicity in Oakland will outweigh the good

OAKLAND (KRON) — With the Warriors in the NBA Championship, millions of people nationwide got to see images of Oakland during the game. Now, some are wondering if those images will be overshadowed by a First Friday protest scheduled for Friday evening.

Knowing the Oakland would be getting nationwide attention during the championship, the city stuck a deal the 75% of images shown during the games come from its side of the bay.


It’s an important move for the city’s economy. Studies from years past put revenue somewhere between $15 and $20 million for the city hosting the games.

The positive light portrayed during the games plays and important role in a city that has battled negative publicity, riots, protests and violence.

Visit Oakland says there’s no way around the bad publicity, but they are going everything they can to balance it out.
