Residents create ‘drug-dealers only’ signs to put a spotlight on rising crime

Residents who are fed up with the increasing crime levels outside their homes in a London suburb decided to get a little creative with the road signs in an attempt to prompt police to take further action.

Six signs have been erected on lampposts in the area of Tower Hamlets, east London, by an anonymous group of artists called the Columbia Road Cartel, according to The Telegraph.

The Cartel was asked to install these signs by neighbors in the Weavers Community Action Group to highlight levels of drug crime.

The fake signs were put up over the weekend because residents say there has been a lack of action by police regarding drug dealing.

Some signs read:

“Crack pick up point”

“Give way to oncoming drug deals”

“Needle free zone”

Jonathan Moberly, who lives in the area, told the Telegraph “One corner of our street is used as a drug collection point 24 hours a day… it is barely possible to avoid walking around or through these gatherings when leaving our returning our home.”

Do you think this method of public shaming will be effective?
