PINOLE (BCN)—Investigators are looking into an attempted home invasion at an alleged marijuana grow house in Pinole in which a resident shot at a person trying to enter the home Monday night, according to police.

Around 9:20 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 2400 block of Stokes Avenue after receiving a report that several people were hiding in bushes in front of the house, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the home’s resident who said one of the people reportedly hiding in the bushes tried to enter his home, police said.

The resident, who was armed with a firearm, fired several times and believed he had struck the suspect, according to police.

All of the suspects then allegedly fled in two vehicles, described as a light colored sedan and a dark colored Ford Explorer-type vehicle, police said.

Officers reviewed surveillance video from the area and confirmed two vehicles had parked in front of the home just before the incident, according to police.

Once the scene was secured, officers checked the home to make sure no one else had tried to enter it and to verify no residents were injured during the incident, police said.

Inside the home, however, officers discovered a marijuana grow operation taking place.

Police then alerted the Pinole Fire Department as well as PG&E to ensure the grow operation was not posing a threat to the structure, according to police.

Officers then contacted nearby hospitals asking them to be on the lookout for a suspect suffering from a gunshot wound. A short while later, officers were notified that a person had arrived at a hospital, suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers went to the hospital and are continuing to investigate the patient’s involvement in the attempted home invasion, police said.

Because of the marijuana grow operation, police believe the incident was not random and that the home was targeted, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Pinole police at (510) 724-8950.
