DENVER (KRON) — A Republican lawmaker is in hot water after saying the attack of a Colorado woman who allegedly cut a fetus from a woman’s belly was God’s curse on the county for tolerating abortion.
Since making that statement, Colorado Springs Republican Gordon Klingenschmitt has apologized.
Despite that apology, Colorado Republicans are continuing to argue publicly over his comments.
Klingenschmitt has been denounced by fellow Republicans and removed from a post on the House Health, Insurance and Environment Committee.
On Tuesday, another Republican said that Klingenschmitt shouldn’t be removed from a legislative position because of something he said on his own time.
Rep. Justin Everett of Littleton said he doesn’t agree with Klingenschmitt’s comment but that the punishment means lawmakers are having speech rights curtailed.
