A new report looked at the ages of women when they become first-time mothers, and the spot where they wait the longest is right here in the Bay Area.

It turns out that the women of San Francisco County become mothers later than anywhere else in the country.

The average age in the United States is 26, but in San Francisco, it’s just shy of 32.

That goes even higher if the woman is married and if she has a college degree. Then, it’s closer to 33 years.

As to why, the New York Times says it seems to boil down to education.

Women without a college degree give birth an average of seven years earlier than those with degrees.

That counts even higher than things like home prices.

Trailing just behind San Francisco in the age ranking, Manhattan and then Marin County.
