Report: Most people in the world do not google, tweet, or bank online

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A report from the United Nations concluded Tuesday that most people in the world do not google, tweet, or bank online.

The UN Broadband Commission said 57 percent of the world is offline and language appears to be one of the major reasons. Only a fraction of the world’s languages, an estimated 5 percent, are present on the Internet.

A survey of the most popular 10 million websites shows more than 55 percent are in English.

Between 4 and almost 6 percent of websites are in Russian, German, Japanese, Spanish and French.
