OAKLAND (KRON) — An anonymous person has donated $34 million Tuesday to the city of Oakland, according to USA Today.
The person said he or she was donating the money to help “underserved” residents. He or she is donating the money to help with education, health care, jobs, and housing and technology skills, the person said.
The San Francisco Foundation said it got a call from the donor in February. The donor said he or she wanted the money “on the streets” by summer, according to USA Today.
Mayor Libby Schaaf said in a news conference she appreciated the donation, thanking the “generous soul.”
“Government can’t do it alone,” she added.
The money will be given to non-profit organizations.
