SAN JOSE (KRON) — Research shows students who eat healthy tend to perform better in school.

That explains all the new, healthy choices on the back-to-school lunch menu at Washington Elementary, and at schools across the San Jose Unified School District. Locally-sourced fruits and vegetables, lean protein sandwiches, and many

made-from-scratch items are on the menu.

Secondary education menus will include Greek salad, chicken pesto and hummus, and avocado wraps. The new menu called “Think California” is designed to encourage kids to think about what they eat.

School started Wednesday for San Jose Unified.
