(WFLA) – A 28-year-old was with some friend kayaking on the river when a snake dropped in from a tree, according to Colleton County Fire Rescue.
The South Carolina man suffered from two bites on his hand from the rattlesnake and is now in critical condition.
His friends were able to capture the snake and call 911.
Medics arrived 12 minutes later and he was then taken to Colleton Medical Center for anti-venom. But while in route, his condition got worse, paramedics say.
Officials say rattlesnake bites are extremely painful and can lead to medical problems. They are not usually fatal if treated properly.
