The suspected Rideshare Rapist accused of targeting women in San Francisco may have been caught with the help of rape kits.
On Wednesday, the San Francisco Police Department released their six-month report detailing the number of rape kits that the department processed in that time.
In the three cases where the women went to the hospital in the Rideshare Rapist case, a rape kit was used in at least one and likely all three cases.
Wednesday’s report given by the San Francisco Police Department is now required because of the large backlog of rape cases across the state and here in the area.
Starting this year, rape kits are required to be tracked and required to be submitted to the crime lab within five days. The good news is that San Francisco is getting better when it comes to doing that.
In the last six months of last year, 15 kits did not make it in within five days. This year, six kits did not make it to the crime lab within five days.
But all of the newer kits were processed.
Also, the number of DNA matches made in these cases rose by 8 percent from 14 to 22 percent.
