ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) – The Oakland Raiders selected West Virginia safety Karl Joseph with the 14th overall pick.

The move to add Joseph on Thursday is the latest to bolster a secondary that needed help this offseason. Oakland had already added safety Reggie Nelson and cornerback Sean Smith in free agency.

Joseph is a hard-hitting safety who is versatile enough to play in the box against the run as well as play in coverage. He played just four games last year before a season-ending knee injury. Joseph had five interceptions last year and nine in 42 career games in college.
