ALAMEDA (KRON) – The Oakland Raiders have selected Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper with the fourth pick in the NFL draft.
The selection Thursday night gives second-year quarterback Derek Carr the game-breaking receiver that has been lacking for so long in Oakland.
Cooper will head to Oakland to join newly acquired receiver — and former 49er — Michael Crabtree, and Raiders’ veteran receivers James Jones and Andre Holmes.
Amari Cooper is gonna teach Micheal Crabtree how to be a good wide receiver lol #NFLDraft2015— Jav (@The_BudMan22) May 1, 2015
There will be a lot of competition in Oakland for Cooper. Receiver Rod Streater will also be among the list of wideouts vying for a starting spot in his return from season-ending injury last year.
Cooper is considered one of the most polished prospects in the draft and immediately will become the top receiver on the Raiders. He led the nation with 124 catches last season in the tough SEC and ranked second with 1,727 yards receiving and 16 touchdown catches.
The Raiders have not had a receiver reach 1,000 yards in a season since Randy Moss in 2005.
