Looking for alternative means of transportation this New Year’s Eve?
Most transit services in the Bay Area will be running into the early hours of New Year’s Day and most will even be free!
Here’s what major transit serves are offering free rides on New Year’s Eve:
- Muni (8 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
- Caltrain (8 p.m. – 2 a.m.)
- AC Transit (8 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
- SamTrans (8 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
- VTA light-rail and buses (8 p.m. – 5 a.m.)
BART will be running until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day with a special catering to extra trains to and from San Francisco’s fireworks show along the Embarcadero.

If you’d rather not take public transportation, California’s Office of Traffic Safety is offering a $10 off Lyft coupon through New Year’s Day. The promo is thanks to a grant from the Governors Highway Safety Association.
For those of you who still want to drive on New Year’s Eve, remember AAA’s annual Tipsy Tow service, which is free for both members and non-members. Tipsy Tow will be available from 6 p.m. tonight until New Year’s Day at 6 a.m. You can get towed up to 10 miles for free. After that, you’ll get charged a standard towing rate.
