MONTEREY CO. (BCN) — A Salinas Valley State Prison inmate has pleaded guilty to the 2011 murder of his cellmate, Monterey County District Attorney Dead Flippo announced Friday.

Joshuwa Vinyard, 30, pleaded guilty to murder for the strangulation of his cellmate in July of 2011.

Vinyard had previously been convicted of battery on another person causing serious bodily injury and was serving a sentence for resisting an executive officer by using threat of violence, prosecutors said.

Vinyard was sentenced Friday to 15 years-to-life in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
