SAN FRANCSICO (KRON) — The two-day Pride Celebration event, has created San Francisco police officials to patrol all of the Civic Center area and downtown San Francisco on Sunday.
The Parade kicked off at 10:30 a.m. at Market and Beale, and ended at Market and 8th Street in downtown San Francisco.
In addition to increased officers, both uniformed and under cover, party-goers had to go through intense security and metal detectors before getting anywhere close to the action.
This year, was the first year Height security has been implemented according to police officials.
A party-goer stated that security was “very simple, kind and easy”, in response to the massacre that occurred two weeks earlier in Orlando.
“We’re not going to back down from more police, or more presence in these events. And we’re here to keep people safe, and we’re going to do so in every way possible”, according to SFPD officer Grace Gatpandan.
Security made people feel safe at Sunday’s event and many people agreed that they will not give into fear and will continue on with “Pride” celebration.
