CAMERON, Ill. (KRON) — Emergency crews in Illinois were assessing the damage on Friday after a series of tornados ripped through several communities.

A storm chaser caught video of a twister that struck about 200 miles southwest of Chicago in the community of Cameron on Thursday night.

Emergency officials say no one was seriously injured but some 50 homes were damaged.

The tornado in Cameron was one of as many as six reported on Thursday in the state. The twisters prompted Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner to activate an emergency operations center in Springfield. The center was designated as a backup for local emergency responders, in case they needed extra assistance, the governor’s office said.
