UPDATE:
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The winning numbers in Wednesday evening’s drawing of the “Powerball” game were:
10-47-50-65-68, Powerball: 24, Power Play: 2
SACRAMENTO (KRON) — The current Powerball jackpot is now the 8th-largest in the game’s history. The estimated $422 million jackpot will possibly land in a lucky winner’s hands on Wednesday evening.
With politic’s dominating the news cycle this week, it’s easy to forget the public has a shot at this huge Powerball jackpot. The jackpot amount has rolled now 22 times since it reset to $40 million for the draw back on May 11.
It has been a couple months since the last time the Powerball jackpot was hit. On May 7, a single ticket purchased in New Jersey matched all six numbers. The Smith family of Trenton, NJ won the $284.1 million prize. The last time a Californian won the Powerball jackpot was back on January 13. Mae and Marvin Acosta purchased a ticket in Chino Hills that matched all six numbers. They shared the record $1.586 billion jackpot with winners in Tennessee and Florida.
If someone wins the Powerball jackpot on Wednesday night, they will have the option of taking the estimated $422 million spread out over 30 years or taking the lump sum amount of an estimated $291.8 million, before federal taxes.
If a California Lottery retailer should sell the winning ticket for either Powerball, SuperLotto Plus or Mega Millions – that business would win big as well. It would receive a bonus of one-half a percent of the jackpot prize up to a maximum of $1 million.
