SANTA ROSA (KRON) — A pedestrian who showed signs of intoxicaion was seriously injured Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle in Santa Rosa, polcie said.

Officers responded at 8:53 p.m. to Piner Road near Coffey Lane on a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian, according to police.

Upon arrival, police located a man in the roadway with significant injuries.

The pedestrian, identified as 26-year-old Thomas Michael Cole, of Santa Rosa, was transported to the hospital with injuries that were life threatening.

The investigation revealed Cole was on the north side of Piner Road near 1735 Piner Road when he started walking across the street and was struck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian was not walking in a crosswalk when the vehicle struck him, police said.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Kevin James Sullivan, of Petaluma, tried to stop the vehicle but could not avoiding hitting the pedestrian, police said.

Police said the pedestrian showed signs and symptoms of intoxication.

The driver did not show signs of intoxication and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.Bay City News Service contributed to this report
