MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) – A Connecticut couple’s fight over a “liked” Facebook post escalated on Tuesday, when a woman allegedly grabbed a hammer and took her anger out on her boyfriend’s car.

According to police, 27 year-old Yorka McKnight, of Middletown, woke up yelling about something she saw on Facebook. When officers arrived at the Ridge Road home just after midnight, McKnight’s boyfriend was standing by his truck in the driveway. The truck’s front windshield had been smashed in several places, the driver’s window was smashed out, and the driver’s side was scratched all the way down, police said.

The victim told police that it was his birthday, and when one of his friends posted a “Happy Birthday” comment on his Facebook page, a woman that he cheated on McKnight with in the past, “liked” the post.

The couple argued, and it escalated to the point when McKnight allegedly took a hammer out of the victim’s toolbox, and began smashing the truck with it, according to police.

McKnight and the victim, who police did not identify, had been in a relationship for 13 years. They have a 9 year-old daughter who was not home at the time of their big fight.

The couple had just moved into the home together the week before. Authorities say after the incident, the victim packed up all of his belongings and is now living with his parents.

Police arrested McKnight, issuing her a summons and releasing her. She was charged with third degree criminal mischief and second degree breach of peace.
