MARTINEZ (KRON) — A stabbing occurred at Martinez Junior High School this afternoon, with one student air lifted to the hospital, according to a police.

Police have advised to avoid the 800 block of Susana Street in Martinez.

The incident happened in the locker room, and involved two boys.

A 13-year-old boy stabbed an 11-year-old boy with a knife in an apparently unprovoked attacked, police said.

The boy responsible for the stabbing is in custody and the 7th grade victim is being air-lifted to Children’s hospital in Oakland.

According to police, “The victim is an 11 year old male. He was transported to a local trauma center by helicopter for a stab wound to his back. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening. “

Martinez Junior High administrators sent out this notification to students and teachers:

“A student was injured by another student on our campus today in the locker room during PE. The student who was injured is stable and has been transported to the hospital.  The Martinez Police Department has detained the student accused of causing the injury and is investigating.

ALL OTHER STUDENTS ARE SAFE AND DO NOT NEED TO BE PICKED UP FROM SCHOOL.

Counselors are on site for students who need support.  I will share more information later today”
