A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed by a police officer in Ceres, California Saturday.
This is about 10 minutes south of Modesto.
The Sheriff’s Department there said Carmen Mendez was shot after a car chase.
They say Mendez jumped out of a Lexus, armed with a handgun.
Police connected the Lexus to two separate incidents — a hit-and-run and a report of someone with a gun.
It is unclear if Mendez was driving the Lexus, because there were four others in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
A 20-year-old was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
The name of the officer who shot Mendez has not yet been released.
