A San Jose high school volleyball coach has been arrested after allegedly touching teenage boys inappropriately.

On Wednesday, Independence High School staff contacted police to report Peter Samonte for the alleged crime. 

An investigation showed that Samonte inappropriately touched two 16-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy between Jan. 2017 and Oct. 2018.

The 24-year-old suspect was booked on three counts of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18. 

The school district released the following statement: 

The San Jose Police Department has informed the District that they have arrested Peter Samonte, a walk-on Boys Volleyball Coach at Independence High School, on charges of sexual assault. We will fully cooperate with the SJPD in its investigation. Mr. Samonte went through the normal background check and coaching certification before he began coaching.

We want to assure the East Side community that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority and we are shocked and deeply disturbed that this could happen. Mr. Samonte has been relieved of his position.
