Police: Petaluma bicyclist robbed, beaten with own golf club

A man is in custody after allegedly robbing and beating bicyclist in Petaulma on Saturday.

Police went to Petaluma Valley Medical hospital to talk to the victim about the attack.


He tells police he was trying to balance a Mountain Dew and his golf club as he rode his bike through Luchessi Park.

“Out of nowhere” a man allegedly knocked him off the bike, took his gold club, and began beating him with it.

The suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Lee Bussell, allegedly hit the victim’s left forearm several times, resulting in a fractured ulna.

Bussell then fled the scene on the victim’s bike with the golf club, police said.

Police found Bussell on North McDowell Blvd. and arrested for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
