WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (WFLA) – A man is under arrest after stabbing another over a reported $2 debt, according to Winter Haven Police.

It happened on 3rd Street N.W. in Winter Haven around 6 p.m. Friday. Odell Kindricks Jr., 36, was walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by 30-year-old Michael Stevenson. Kindricks told officers that Stevenson asked for his $2 that he was owed.

When Kindricks refused to give the money back, Stevenson stabbed him in the back and ran, police said.

Kindricks fell to the ground from the hit, but then he got up and ran to his home on Palmetto Avenue. A witness called 911 and paramedics responded to the area. Kindricks was airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries. He is now listed in stable condition.

Detectives arrested Stevenson in his home in Winter Haven.

He has an extensive criminal record in the area, officers said.

“This senseless attack on a citizen walking in his own neighborhood is tragic,” said Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird. “I applaud the swift actions of the residents in the neighborhood who worked with us along with the victim to identify Stevenson and get him behind bars.”

Kindricks was booked into the Polk County Jail on the charge of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
