One person is dead and three people, including a child, are injured after a shooting Sunday night in Santa Rosa, according to Santa Rosa Police Department.

Police say a Colorado man, later identified as 65-year-old Walter Ross, came to confront his estranged wife at a home in the 400 block of Garfield Park Ave.

It was around 8:04 p.m. when Ross entered the home. His estranged wife was not there, but their son and daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and several dinner guests were there when Ross allegedly walked in and fired multiple rounds.

Officers received several 911 calls about the shooting. One came from a female inside the home who was hiding in a bathroom.

When police arrived, they heard a single gunshot. Officers weren’t sure if the gunman was shooting someone inside, or aiming at them. Police tried to talk the people inside. When they were unable to communicate, a SWAT team was deployed to the scene.

The SWAT team entered the home and found two men with gunshot wounds.

One, a 43-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was pronounced at the scene.

A 41-year-old man was alive, but unresponsive. A 4-year-old boy was also injured. Both are expected to survive.

“It appears that Ross then sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police said. He is in critical condition and his injuries are considered life-threatening.

The 400 block of Garfield Park Ave. will be closed until at least 7:00 a.m. Monday as investigators process the scene.
