PITTSBURGH, PA (WCMH) – Pennsylvania police are investigating a case of alleged animal cruelty after photos of the incident surfaced on Facebook.

The Facebook post was shared more than 15,000 times. It claims to show an an Amish man “beating a horse to the point it collapsed.”

The woman who made the post claims the horse wasn’t able to pull a wagon full of watermelons, and the man began beating the animal.

“At that point he continued to kick, hit and pull on the poor seemingly dying animal. I pulled over and called the police. They came to evaluate the situation,” the post reads.

The Ephrata Police Department confirms it is looking into the case. It says the “report was made in a timely manner and the investigation began at that time. Officers conducted interviews and follow up interviews – and will conduct more.”

Police have not made any arrests as of this writing.
