(BCN)  The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred Thursday in the North Fair Oaks community near Redwood City.

The incident occurred Thursday at 12:10 p.m. in the area of Douglas and Fair Oaks avenues.

Deputies said an unknown suspect on a red bicycle approached a 12-year-old juvenile who was walking near the intersection and asked if she was lost.

The suspect told her “Don’t worry, I’ll take you,” and he then attempted to grab her, deputies said.

The suspect was unable to grab the victim, and she was able to run to Fair Oaks Elementary School and tell her summer counselor about the incident.

Deputies responded to the scene and conducted an extensive search of the area but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man, 30-40 years old, with a skinny build and blond hair. He was not wearing a shirt and was wearing white and red striped shorts and was riding a red bicycle.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office at (650) 363-4055.
